Carla Garber, Ph.D., L.P.C. has over 30 years experience as a professional counselor in the Fort Worth/Dallas area! She is known for her compassionate focus on each individual client and her unwavering committment to ethical client care. She is a Licensed Professional Counselor in the state of Texas, a certified Equine Growth and Learning Association Therapist, a successful life coach, an accomplished speaker and author.
Dr. Garber is a graduate of Texas Christian University with a Bachelor of Science degree in Psychology. She continued to work at TCU after graduation in many areas of student development. She received her Master's and PH.D. degrees in Counseling from the University of North Texas, where she completed special research on the media's impact on individuals' body image.
Carla began her experience working with others as an undergraduate at Texas Christian University, where she was a Resident Assistant and Hall Director in several residence halls. She became a liaison for the TCU Counseling Center, responsible for "after-hour" student mental health emergencies. She still works very closely with TCU staff and students.
She then served as a therapist in a hospital eating disorder treatment program, where she designed and implemented the hospital's Outpatient Program. She has spoken at national and international conferences, as well as schools, parent/teacher groups and professional organizations.
Dr. Garber has taught Psychology at a local University and assisted with academic advising at local Junior Colleges. She has served as a consultant for the Federal Government regarding Eating Disorders and supervised a grant program for the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services. Carla has been interviewed by several TV and radio news broadcasts and newspapers.
She enjoys mentoring, supervising and training new professionals. She has been a contributor to many websites. Her expertise in organizational dynamics has been utilized by many professional groups and businesses. She is a member of the Academy of Eating Disorders and was the co-founder of Eating Disorder networking groups in Tarrant County. She maintains a private practice in Fort Worth, Texas serving a broad spectrum of clients. She hosts a resource library in her offices. Among her areas of expertise are Eating Disorders, Mood and Anxiety Disorders, 12-Step Recovery, Equine Therapy and Stress Management.

Dr. Garber is a practical, interactive, solution-focused therapist. Her treatment approach is to provide support and practical feedback to help clients resolve current problems and long-standing patterns. She incorporates a blend of conventional and alternatives approaches, drawing upon a variety of styles and techniques to incorporate what will be most helpful for each client. With sensitivity and compassion, she works with each client to help them build on their strengths to identify and achieve life goals.
Carla has had specialty training in many treatment modalities including Adlerian Cognitive Behavioral Therapy; Pia Melody's Shame Reduction Therapy; Dialectical Behavioral Therapy with Marsha Linehan and Equine Assisted Therapy with Wyatt Webb and others.
In her free time, Dr. Garber enjoys writing, traveling and working with her Arabian horses at her farm outside Fort Worth in Joshua, Texas.
